Welcome to my blog and let me reintroduce myself to my new followers!!
My name is Joann, I’ve been married for 11 years and have 7-year-old twin boys. My son, Michael, is autistic and non-verbal. His twin brother, Alex, is super smart and talks enough for both. I’m a dog mom to my large but adorable Chocolate Lab, Maggie. I also have a very loud, talkative bird named Nicki.
I started my blog last year as a tribute to my mom. Every year she gave me a journal for Christmas in the hopes of one day writing my memoirs.
Here are a few things that you may not know about me:
I live in the state famous for its diners, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi and the Jersey shore.
I ran several fan clubs for daytime actors during the 1980’s. I traveled to L.A. about 4-5 times a year! I enjoyed working with the actors, planning their meet and greets, and running their fan clubs. I met most of my very best friends during that time and we still talk almost every day.
I have a younger sister, Patty, and she is my very best friend. My husband and brother-in-law find it funny that we are so close and so much alike. We have been known to buy the same clothing (even wearing it on the same day), as well as picking out the same holiday or birthday cards to give to relatives.
I work part-time for a private college as a chat operator. It’s one of the most rewarding jobs I have had. I assist high school and adult students work toward their goal of becoming a college graduate.
Although I love planning parties, I am not a social butterfly! I’m an introvert and, if you met me for the first time, you may think I’m a little bit of a snob. I’m not. I just have a hard time starting conversations when meeting new people.
I’m not a huge fan of social media. Although, I know it is an important part of having a blog, it’s the one thing I am slowly learning to deal with it.
I love comedy! One of my favorite things to do is visit comedy clubs. I have secretly always wanted a chance at open mic night, but I doubt my introverted self would ever allow it. Do I think I am funny? Hell yes!
I have a bucket list of things I don’t want to do …. And yes, you read that right. I wanted to be different so there I’ll just put that out there.
I love to dance, and I am damn good at it! BUT – I cannot twerk to save my life. Ugh.
My husband and I have a plan for our retirement already. We would love to live a few months at different locations in Europe. It’s one of our goals we hope, God willing, we will achieve.
I love the beach but I’m not a fan of the Ocean. I enjoy the waves and sounds of the fresh sea air, but I do not enjoy being in the water. And, no I don’t swim.
My favorite holiday is Christmas and my favorite season is Summer! (Fall is taking a close second.)
As I reflect on my first year of blogging, I’m proud of myself; I did it! I was so nervous to start and put myself out there, but I’m so happy I took the chance. I’ve met so many wonderful people and made new friends. I’ve learned along the way that it’s okay to take chances even when you are scared to. I’m looking forward to the next year and to the new adventures that may come. Thanks to all of you who have chosen to follow me on this journey!
