I love reading Christmas storybooks as much as I love watching the Hallmark Channels Christmas movies! As a little girl, I loved when my mom would give me a new Christmas story on cassette. Yes, a cassette. My first story on a cassette tape was A Charlie Brown Christmas. I played the heck out of that and, thankfully, it came with a read-along book. I like the idea of creating new traditions and I thought about reading a Christmas story to my boys every night the week of Christmas. I think it would be a wonderful family activity for my boys and something they will always remember. So, today I thought I’d share my Christmas book selections for kids. I broke them down by their age range so it would be more helpful.

Toddler
Santa’s Workshop by Holly Berry-Byrd – I’ve been obsessed with Santa’s workshop for as long as I can remember! As a little girl, I would have done anything to be able to visit the North Pole and Santa’s workshop! This is a beautiful board book that features a chunky lift-a-flap book for little hands to peek at Santa’s workshop. The book is written in simple sentences and beautiful pictures. I absolutely love the pictures of the adorable reindeer and I think your toddler will too!
The First Christmas by Holly Berry-Byrd – The beautiful story of Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem where baby Jesus was born. This book also features a chunky lift-a-flap book for your little one to explore. This is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the story of the Holy Family.

How to Catch Santa by Jean Reagan – I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to catch Santa! Never came close, but I do remember seeing him flying over a house on my way to my grandmother’s! This book captures that feeling of adventure and the idea that, with a plan, you CAN catch Santa! It will keep kids laughing and thinking. What will they do if they do catch him? A fun book for everyone!
The Littlest Christmas Tree – A Picture Book by R.A. Herman – This adorable story is about the littlest Christmas tree wishing for a family to take him home for Christmas. There are only five days left and he wants to find a home. As Christmas gets closer, he starts to worry that he will never get a home. Then finally, on Christmas Eve, his wish comes true. A sweet story that you will enjoy reading to your child.

Little Red Sleigh by Erin Guendelsberger – This heartwarming story is about determination in making your dreams come true. The little sleigh, who dreams of becoming Santa’s sleigh, teaches children that anything is possible with hard work. Today in a world where learning and teaching acceptance is sometimes a struggle, the Little Red Sleigh reminds you that just being true to yourself is more than enough.
All Ages
The Little Red Christmas Ball, a story for kids and anyone whoever was…and would be again by Brian Moloney – I love this story! I’ve always been drawn to the shiny, glass, old-fashioned Christmas ornaments. I grew up with them adorning our tree and my mom loved them as well. This story resonates with me because I can relate to feeling sad that the vintage glass ornaments don’t get much love anymore. I have a few of my mom’s ornaments saved and, although I am afraid to put them on the tree now, I want my boys to know how special they are. This story teaches that even ordinary things from a long time ago still matter.
December Holidays from around the World, by Baby Professor – It’s the most wonderful time of the year and what a great time to learn how other countries in our world celebrate the December holidays! This allows children the opportunity to learn about the different holiday traditions and diversity in other cultures.
That’s my collection of Christmas Stories! I hope there are one or two that you would like to read to your child.
