Last month I had an opportunity to attend the “Beauty for a Cure” master make-up class to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, with my friend and makeup artist, Jillyan Scarpa. I met Jill about 10 years ago when I was looking for a makeup artist for my wedding. From the first time I went for my trial, I not only fell in love with her work, I fell in love with her personality, and she has become someone I consider a friend. Jill is a former national educator/trainer for M.A.C. Cosmetics and some of Jill’s clients have been celebrities, television and film stars, as well as brides.
I was recently talking with Jill about the upcoming spring and summer beauty trends and I thought I would share them with you today. First on the list, as Jill says, “Thank God, luscious glossy lips are back,” I couldn’t agree more. I’m not a real fan of matte lip colors, at least not for me personally. Yes, Kylie Jenner can wear them and wear them well, but not all of us can pull it off. I have always been more of a gloss girl myself, so I was excited to hear that this a trend we can see in the next few months. During last month’s event I attended, I won a goodie bag filled with some great glosses from Essence called the “Shine, shine shine lip glosses.” These glosses provide you with a very high shiny wet look finish and they are extremely comfortable to wear. My favorite shades are Happiness In A Bottle and Bright on.
Jill also said bronzed and highlighted skin such as Jennifer Lopez’s JLO Glow will also be trending. Using bronzers and highlighters to create that glow within, as well as self-tanners, are a great way to create a healthy, golden glow.
In addition to glowing skin, Jill suggests pops of colors, such as fresh pinks and peaches on the cheeks are also a great way to anchor and neutralize color; especially for those who are not used to it. When it comes to the eyes, Jill advises to go with warm, bronzed jewel tones with pops of color from pink to blues.
Jill has been kind enough to send me a list of her product recommendations to purchase, in all price ranges, to achieve the spring and summer beauty trends.
