
Please tell us a little bit about yourself:
My name is Lauren Petersen. I was born and raised in Edmonds, WA, which is about 45 minutes north of Seattle. I met my husband at the age of 14 in High School. We have been married now for almost 15 years and have two kids, Aubrey who is 11 and Aiden who is 8. My husband is a Driver Operator/Firefighter for our local fire district. He has been in the Fire Service for just over 10 years. We enjoy traveling (especially to Disneyland), movies, boating, and spending quality time together as a Family.
Before becoming a Beachbody coach, what kind of exercise/health programs did you try? Did you have success? Pros/cons – etc.
I have always been a very active/fit person. As a child I played softball and enjoyed water skiing. I was a competitive springboard diver where I placed first in State Competition, competitive swimmer, a dancer since the age of 8, and an equestrian since the age of 8 years old (Western Performance, Huntseat, Dressage, Reining, etc.). So, needless to say, staying “fit” was of huge importance for me.
However, after getting married and having kids, things changed. My metabolism changed, by body changed, and my hormones changed. Eating the way that I used to didn’t work for me any longer. Taking two hours to go to the gym to attend classes and use the machines was not “doable” anymore due to my busy schedule. What worked before no longer worked. I would watch shows and try the latest trends. 3-week “best booty” challenges, taking the latest cleanse that some doctor on TV suggested, etc. You name it, I tried it and it worked…at the beginning. But, the weight ALWAYS came back. Why? It came back because it was not a lifestyle change. I was using it for a quick fix.
What is Beachbody and why is it different from other programs?

What made you decide to try Beachbody, and ultimately become a coach?
I was introduced to Beachbody in 2017. Our youngest had just been diagnosed with Autism two years earlier and I had retired from my job as an Ophthalmic Assistant, which I did for 16 years. I was depressed, sad, and angry at the world at that time. I weighed the heaviest I had ever weighed. I was 171lbs (I am 5’1”) and I was eating so much fast-food and processed food.
For my daughter’s birthday that year we decided to take her and her cousin to a local water park. When returning home we dropped off her cousin to my brother-in-law and sister-in-law’s house. It had been a few months since we all saw each other and when I saw my sister-in-law I was in shock! She was so fit, so healthy, and looked amazing! I asked what the heck she had been doing, “You look like you have lost so much weight.” She told me that she had joined a “Challenge Group” through her Beachbody Coach. I had absolutely no idea what she was talking about. “Challenge Group? Coach? Beachbody has those? Don’t they only have DVDs?” She proceeded to tell me that Beachbody now has a digital platform with all of their workouts that they have produced and they assign you a personal Coach. The Coach hosts monthly “Challenge Groups” for support and helps you in your wellness journey. She said that they were starting another group in one week. I thought to myself, “Seriously, it is that simple? Yeah, right.”
A few days later she was tagged in a Facebook Live Video. I was very curious so I hopped on the video. The woman in the video happened to be my sister-in-law’s Beachbody Coach, Katie Englund. Listening to her talk about the groups, her “why” story, their community, I just felt a huge pull towards joining. You know when you get the “chicken skin” feeling and all the tingling. That was my intuition and a sign from God that I needed to follow my intuition. I contacted my sister-in-law and joined that night. I went all in! I also signed up as a Discount Coach (to start) from day one. I wanted 25% off of my future purchases! After my first 21-day Challenge Group and losing 10-lbs, I went all in. I was hooked. I decided that I wanted to help others feel as good as I did. Who am I to block a blessing, right? I found a new way to help people.

How has Beachbody transformed your life?
I do not even know if I can itemize out how much my life has changed since joining Beachbody and this community. I am healthier (mind, body and spirit). I am a happier Mom, a happier wife. I am bringing in money to support the family. I am helping other women and men change their own lives. I have new friends for life. I am traveling the US, and I get to do all of this with my closets of friends. This opportunity came to me at the exact time that I needed it to come. I just had to lean in and try something new.
What would you say to someone who is interested in trying but not sure he/she can do it?
Oh man, I completely understand. I was completely there with you. I have heard every excuse and I have made every excuse myself. Change is HARD. The word ‘can’t’ is not a word that I believe in. ‘Can’t’ is a lie we tell ourselves to make an excuse for what we do not ‘WANT’ to do. I know that may seem harsh, but it is the truth. For me, it was not an issue of ‘can’t’ anymore, it was an issue of “why are you making excuses, Lauren?” For my first “Challenge Group” I joined, I was driving 200 miles a day, spending 5 hours in the car, and transporting our child to therapies. Of course, I told myself, “I didn’t have time.” When are you going to put person worth first, Lauren? You cannot be the best wife, Mom, and friend if you are not taking care of yourself.” (Yes, I actually talk to myself like this. I have ‘truth’ talks all the time.)
I got you. I will be here for you. You are going to have to put in the work yourself. I cannot do it for you. But, what I can promise is that I will be here for you. I will answer your questions and I will provide you with feedback. There will be times when you love me and other times that I am going to annoy the heck out of you. Why? Because I am not going tell you what you want to hear; I am going to tell you what you need to hear … the truth. I will help you give yourself grace, while always helping you to self-reflect if you are making excuses. I will provide you with a community of like-minded individuals to support you along the way. I will be your Coach and support you even if you do not feel you have the support around you. You CAN do this and you deserve the best life for yourself!
