I’ll bet you think I forgot all about my beauty goals for the past year. I know, I know. It’s been awhile since I wrote about my mad beauty addiction. Well, in case you missed it back in January, I decided I was going to hold off on making any new makeup purchases unless it was something I ran out of. So, how did I do?
I’m not going to say it was easy but for the most part I did pretty good. My main reason for doing this is I realized my makeup collection was getting so out of hand. With new palettes, foundations, concealers and lipstick releases, I was going crazy trying to keep up with them. Financially, it was putting a major dent in my wallet. I knew I had to stop. It also didn’t help that I’m just as addicted to makeup as I am to so many beauty YouTube channels!
So, I know what you’re thinking – enough with the chit-chat, Joann. Tell us how you did! I did well. Not great, but not bad either. I did buy a few palettes, a new foundation, a few lipsticks and a few primers. To be honest, I ran out of primer and, of course, mascara. Did I need the palette? No. The foundation? No. But between Jessica Braun’s and Lisa J.’s YouTube channel, I was doomed!
However, I’m sort of proud of myself. I was nowhere near the warehouse-size number of products I had the year before. I continued to use and empty many of my products. The new products I did buy are all being used daily (some are almost empty).
I also realized I have had a major shift in my viewing habits when it comes to beauty YouTube channels. Many of the ones I had subscribed to, I chose to unsubscribe. Nothing personal against the vloggers themselves; it’s that I just got to the point where I am not as interested in either learning anything new about makeup application or any new product releases or reviews. Things change all the time. I’ve realized that I am more interested in channels that are focusing on a variety of things – not just makeup. I will always love makeup, but my addiction to keeping up with all the new releases has died down.
As for my blog and writing beauty content, I will continue to post when I have products I love and want to share with you. With that said, here are a few of my current favorite products. I’ve been using these daily and all can be found at Walmart:

Physician’s Formula Healthy Foundation – I love the way this looks on my skin, but the scent makes me nuts. Luckily, the scent dissipates as the day goes on. It provides medium coverage and makes your skin look really, well, “healthy”.
Physician’s Formula Healthy Powder – I purchased this with the foundation and I love it just as much. I use it for setting the foundation and as a concealer. It’s not cakey and I think it really smooths out the texture of my skin.
Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator, Gilded Honey – I’ve been using this highlighter for a few years now. This is my go-to highlighter for every day. It’s enough to give me a very natural glow on my cheeks. I can use it year-round. In the summer, if I have a little more color, it really looks very nice.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil – This is my all-time favorite eyeliner! I’ve always had trouble finding an eyeliner that will last and stay put. The Urban Decay 24/7 is absolutely the best. I do not line my inner rims on a daily basis but, when I do, I go for this one. I love that it doesn’t smear or bother my eyes.
L’Oreal Paris Infallible Longwear Shaping Blush Sticks – Sexy Flush – This is such a pretty color and I love that I can blend it in with my fingers. It’s so easy to apply and the color lasts! I’m definitely going to try a few of the other shades.
L’Oreal Paris Paradise Enchanted Scented Eyeshadow Palette – I love this palette! I’ve seriously been reaching for this one almost every day the last few months. I know it says it’s scented, but I don’t smell anything which is fine with me. The colors and the pigment are just so pretty. My favorite shades to wear are # 4, 7, and 10.
Charlotte Tilsbury – matte revolution lipstick – Very Victoria – I love this shade! The color was inspired by Victoria Beckham and it is a nice nude taupe, perfect for every day.
So, what will my beauty goals be for 2020? I think I’d like to focus on more skin care products. I’ve been upping my skin care routine this past year and finding some great anti-aging products. I’d also like to concentrate on hair care and body care as well. Just like last year, I’d like to keep myself within budget, so we’ll see how it goes in the new year. I’m going to continue to follow my no-new rule from last year unless I need to replace a product. I’ll keep you updated throughout the year.
